You know that time when a girl is newly married? The social media is set ablaze with pre-wedding photos, wedding photos, honeymoon photos, best-husband-on-earth photos, etc. Then all of a sudden, the pictures stop coming in. Her posts get very spiritual, especially if she wasn’t so spiritual before. At this point you come to the conclusion that she is pregnant. How right you are!
Our culture has taught us to hide pregnancies. Ah, the village people will see. Your enemies will know. Ayamatanga will eat the baby inside your womb! So you retreat from us witches and hide yourself from Instagram. Hubby says he doesn’t want to see your legs neat Facebook and your mother (oh Lord!) thinks you should deactivate your snapchat account altogether (me too), lest we see your pregnancy and eat your baby.
Aunty, uncle, your village people are not on social media. They are too busy following up your destiny on their mirrors to follow you on Instagram. They are your neighbours, your church members, your friends, your colleagues, the man beside you in the taxi. How do you plan on hiding from all these people? Let’s not forget the ones that have spiritual CCTV cameras in your house.
The irony is that when you finally put to bed, you’ll flood our timelines with baby photos so we can congratulate you. Like being out of the womb makes him/her invincible! What’s the guarantee that we won’t come in the middle of the night to eat the baby when he’s 4 months or 4 years or 40 years old?
This is not meant to scare anyone. I just want us to stop being so fearful. Even God doesn’t like your fear! That’s why he said he’ll prepare a table for you “in front” of your enemies and not under your bed. Know who you are in Christ and know that we are not your village people!
