Have youever come across a photo on any social media platform with captions like “I love my big head, yes I have big eyes but mind your business, big teeth gang..” or any other weird equivalent? Well, I have and the first thing I realise is that I didn’t even notice these body parts before the captions drew my attention to them.
In as much as you attempt to give the impression that you are comfortable in your own skin and don’t really care that we think, I really do not buy it. I just feel like you are trying too hard. I mean, you don’t owe me any explanations. I feel like I can almost see the undertones of insecurity in those captions. It is as though you are trying to defend yourself before people can even attack you…
Our physical “flaws” (assuming you still see yours as flaws) are ours to own, not to defend. The world be damned if they think you are too dark or whatever! It’s none of their business. You don’t have to explain to people how being short is better than being tall, it makes no sense. You will not feel better about yourself by convincing others to feel better about you (at least not permanently). You feel better about yourself when you learn to accept yourself, by yourself, for yourself.
Please note that this post is not a verbal attack on anyone. You may be a frequent user these captions and you are wondering what kind of stupid post this is, because you don’t have body image issues. Please forgive me, na small pikin dey worry me. Still drop comments and share, tenks.
